An Announcement

As I had feared, the daily grind of my day job has consumed my every move, and this has led me to make a drastic and necessary decision. I made this decision about a week ago, but have only now decided to finally make it a public announcement:

I will no longer be involving myself in my writing activities with Outburn Magazine and ReGen Magazine.

I guess this is my retirement from writing. Kind of weird to call it that, but thats what it feels like. It was a nice run. I enjoyed every moment until the last several months when it seemed impossible to find the time and energy to focus on writing professional grade reviews. There are many other reasons why I am hanging it up, and I contemplated airing my grievances here in this blog entry, but I think its best that I remember the 99% good times and leave the 1% bad out of it. No need to tarnish a fun legacy.

I wrote over 2000 reviews, interviewed bands such as Type O Negative, Unearth, Zoar, Reflux, As I Lay Dying and several others, and wrote several show reviews. I met many great artists, industry personnel, as well as label owners, and gained access to shows and back stage areas based on these credentials. Best of all, I amassed a novels worth of experiences and better than that, I gained hundreds of meaningful and lifelong friendships.

I did 11 years as a rock photographer. Then I did 11 years as a journalist. I would like to say that I am now going to spend the next 11 years concentrating on the podcast, but I am already 5 years in to that venture. Does that mean that I have only 6 years left with Razor Blade Dance Floor? Maybe. Maybe not.

Only time will tell.

  1. Wow. I understand this surely wasn’t a particular simple choice, but I can completely understand it. Writing for mags is time intensive, I had to give up some journo work myself due to not having time… merely Zillo kept today.
